Happy & Surprised Family & Friends

My Mom wins the prize for the best picture reaction to our baby news! Love you Mom!
A definite second, close first was our good friends Mary & Brandon! They crack me up and I love it!!! When we saw them in January the joke was that maybe I was pregnant and if I was, the baby would be the size of a grain of rice. Whenever the joke came up over the weekend we affectionately referred BB as "rice baby"!! Oh and the lime=the size of BB when we officially announced our news :)
My wonderful in-laws, Karen & Chuck
Sister Kim!
Love you Dad
Sister in-law Kristin, thumbs up!
Two friends/coworkers Teresa & Katie
Brother Aaron
Another coworker, Troy!

Do A Little Dance!

When I had my doctor's appointment a few weeks ago the nurse was quite spirited! It was much more fun and entertaining having an excitable nurse than a bland one (not that I've experienced that!). Anyway, every Thursday it's the babies belly birthday. BB is one more week along each Thursday! The nurse told me that I should go out into my front yard and do a dance every Thursday to celebrate being one more week along... she's so silly!

I don't do the dance in my yard but I sure do think about that silly nurse every Thursday when I celebrate BB's life inside me!!!

BB is now 14 weeks alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Praise the Lord on high for such wonderful miracles. We love you Lord :)

Baby Blom Kicks!

My little one likes to kick a lot! Well, I can't feel it yet but during the ultra sound it was like a dance party in there for Baby! BB (Baby Blom) was like swinging his hips, kicking his/her feet and grooving all over the womb! Makes Mom proud.

Oh, and BB was doing some wall sits. Good Baby!!!

And So It Begins...

Tomorrow very early and not even bright out yet (4:15am) I'll be off to the airport to say "see you later Babe" to David.

I have been really having a hard time with him leaving, it's the preleaving stuff that's the hardest for me. I feel like I start to pull away from him and distance myself for some type of protection. It's hard to enjoy the last few days you have together when you know you will be apart very soon for way too long. I think it's just knowing this trip (about 3.5 weeks) is the beginning of him being gone for much longer. We both appreciate your prayers as he heads out to New Jersey for combat training, among other JAG specific training (the first week is only JAG's that are getting deployed). I'll try to keep you up to date with anything exciting David's up to while he's gone this time.

For those in our home towns...
We are heading to the midwest to see you in May!! We'll be in IL and MN but only for a few days each so, if you want to meet up please let us know ahead of time since we'll have a tight schedule.

Cravings vs Reality

My #1 craving has been pizza & beer. It's like I want pizza & beer everyday! Unfortunately David won't let me have any beer but... once he's out of the country he can't stop me!!
The reality though is, when I would be actually offered pizza it just sounds too greasy and bloating and down right bad so, I haven't had much of it.
On the other hand, I've had a whole lot of the follow: Gatorade, Rold Gold pretzels, Zesta/Saltine crackers and Strawberries. Not too exciting but I'm really really looking forward to having my appetite back! I'm praying the nausea is gone for good (it's been creepin around the last few days but not as strong)!

New Glasses!!

All joking aside, these are the glasses the USAF issued Capt Blomgren for his deployment! Secretly David loves them and says they are more comfortable than his regular ones :-)

That's My King!

Today in church our pastor played this video, twice! Man did it get us fired up and excited about our King again!!!
This is only half of SM Lockridge's rant on how amazing our King is so if you're looking for a full version try youtube.com.
SM Lockridge's sermon has a special place in my heart not only because it's an exciting glimpse of God but because my dad would play this for us in the car as we grew up! He loved this (originally 6 min) clip from Lockridge's sermon and it still touches us today. I hope you have a few minutes to get excited!

We're PREGNANT!!!!!

The big news now is that we're going to be parents!
We found out on February 15th that we're pregnant!  We are so happy, excited, scared, anxious, etc.  Kelly is 12 weeks along and the little one is due October 22nd.  Kel's been pretty nauseated and tired but has been feeling more like herself this past week.  Yesterday, we had our first ultrasound.  Yup...there's a baby (about the size of a lime) with a heartbeat (about 160 bpm) in Kelly's belly!
Unfortunately, David will be deployed during the majority of the pregnancy and the birth.  He is leaving for training next week through mid May and then will head to Iraq at the beginning of June and coming back the middle of December.  We are hoping/praying that he can come home for the birth, but we won't know until he gets over there.
Below are the 2 pictures we got from the ultrasound.  They're not the best quality, but you can see a little head and hand!  We are hoping to get some better quality pictures in the near future.
Baby is looking --> it's a profile picture!

Becker-Blomgren Reunion

Last weekend, Kelly and I met our great friends, Disko and Joy Becker, in Kansas City for a reunion.  It was a great time of refreshment and laughter.  Disko and Joy have played significant roles in our lives and marriage and we know that we'll continue to walk down the path of life with them for years to come.  Disko and I lived on the Penthouse (top floor of Sammy Morris Hall--the best dorm) together at Taylor University while Joy and Kelly got to know each other intimately through a Beth Moore Bible study.
We really miss the Beckers, who now live in OH where Joy is an elementary teacher and Dr. Disko is getting a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Miami of Ohio.  Thanks for great weekend guys...see you next April in KC!
Another member of the Beth Moore clan (and good friend) Mary Beth, lives in KS and is about to graduate from The International House of Prayer.
Disko and his massive cup of Mountain Dew.

Buffalo Joe's!

David & I tried a great new recipe this past weekend. It was quick, easy, healthy and yummy too! Have I convinced you to try it yet?!
This recipe is the healthy alternative to buffalo wings and sloppy joe's combined!

2# of ground chicken or turkey
2 medium carrot sicks, grated
2-3 celery hearts
2-3 garlic cloves
3 Tbls. Brown Sugar
3 Tbls. Vinegar, any kind
1 Tbls. Worchshire Sauce
1/4-1/3 C. hot sauce
1 C. chix stock
1 C. tomato sauce
Buns or bread
Salt & pepper

  1. Brown 2# of ground chicken or turkey (use EVOO to help get the brown color)
  2. Add carrots, celery & garlic
  3. Mix the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl on the side: brown sugar, vinegar, worchshire, hot sauce (the more you use the more HOT it'll be), chix stock, tomato sauce & salt & pepper to taste
  4. Add sauce to the meat until warm
  5. Serve on a bun like a sloppy joe!
  6. We added a little bit of Ranch dressing on the joe, but you could add blue cheese crumbles instead!
Let us know if you try it and how much you like it!
